Using Your Credit Card

Your Times Card allows you the flexibility of either paying directly for goods and services or using the card to withdraw cash from an ATM. Paying by card has many advantages:

Convenience
You can use you card to make purchases at any Merchant where you see the Visa sign, anywhere in the world. You don’t have to carry around large amounts of cash and you can keep all your spending power in your pocket.

Safety
If your wallet is lost or stolen and someone else uses your card, you will not be liable for any fraudulent spend – as long as you report it to us immediately.

Helps Budgeting
All card transactions are detailed on your monthly statement, showing when and where you have spent on your card and putting you in control of your finances. Your card can also be a way to access the spending power you need in an emergency.

Using your PIN

Using your Times Card and your 4 digit Personal Identification Number (PIN) you can also get access to cash from any ATM where you see the Visa sign. This can be very useful in a number of situations but remember that there may be charges for withdrawing cash on your card.

How balance transfers work

Can I transfer a balance today?
You can transfer another credit or store card balance in your name to your Times Card at any time, as long as you have the funds available within your existing credit limit. If you'd like to transfer a balance larger than your current credit limit would allow, or want to ensure that you still have funds for new purchases, then simply call us and we'll consider increasing your limit. Until the transferred balance appears on your monthly statement you should continue to make payments to your other lender. Please note that we are unable to accept transfers from cards or loans issued by companies within the Barclays Group.

How much can I transfer?
As you'd expect, there is a limit to the amount that can be transferred at a promotional rate. The maximum amount you can transfer is upto 90% of the Credit Limit on your Times Card.

What rate do I pay?
We regularly offer promotional rates to our existing customers. These can differ from month to month and could be for a fixed period of time (6, 9 or 12 months), or until the transferred balance has been repaid in full. The rate and period of any promotional offer can be found on the page detailing the balance transfer offer. If a fee is going to be charged, the amount will also be advised. There's no interest-free period on balance transfers as they are existing debts being consolidated onto a different account. Therefore, you will be charged interest at the promotional rate from the day the balance is transferred. If you are offered a rate for a fixed period of time, any balance remaining at the end of the period will revert to your standard purchase rate. See your account Terms and Conditions for information on the applicable rate.

How much will I have to repay each month?
Your monthly statement will tell you the minimum amount that you need to pay and the date that payment is due. You can then choose to pay either this amount or more if you prefer, each payment reducing your transferred balance first before any standard purchases or cash withdrawals. Your standard balances will increase by the amount you spend each month but will start to reduce after your transferred balance has been paid in full, or the promotional period has ended. Promotional rates will be repriced to your purchase rate if minimum payments are not received each month, or you exceed your credit limit in any month. This is in line with your Times Card conditions.
Please remember that our promotional offers all have offer close dates, so make sure you apply before the offer end date (found on the page detailing the balance transfer offer) to benefit from a specific rate. Times Card reserves the right to refuse a balance transfer.

Protecting against fraud

Although we do all we can to prevent it, unfortunately there is always a small risk of fraudulent use of a credit card. To protect our customers from this risk we guarantee that you will not have to pay for any fraudulent transactions on your account as long as you tell us your card has been lost or stolen straight away and you have done your best to protect your card

.It’s not always possible to prevent fraud from happening, but there are a few steps you can take to make it more difficult for a criminal to capture your card or card numbers. Here are some tips on how to protect yourself from credit card fraud:

Do sign your cards as soon as they arrive
Do carry your cards separately in your wallet (e.g. in a zippered compartment) or in a separate card holder
Do keep a record of your card numbers, their expiry dates, and our Customer Services number and address in a safe and secure place
Do keep an eye on your card during the transaction, and get it back as soon as possible
Do in a restaurant ask the waiter to bring the card terminal or card imprinter to you (or go with him/her to the till). Always keep your card in sight when paying for goods or services and ensure it is your card that is returned
Do save receipts to compare against your Times Card statement
Do open statements promptly and reconcile accounts monthly, just as you would with your regular bank account
Do report any questionable charges promptly and in writing to us
Do tell us in advance of a change of address
Do tell us when you are going abroad
Don’t lend your card(s) to anyone
Don’t carry cards on top of a handbag or in a pocket where they can be easily stolen.
Don’t leave cards unattended in a car or receipts lying around
Don’t sign a blank receipt. When you sign a receipt, draw a line through any blank spaces above the total
Don’t write your account number on a postcard or the outside of an envelope
Don’t give out your account number over the phone unless you’re making the call to a company you know is reputable
Don’t write down your personal identification number (PIN) or divulge it to anyone
Don’t let your card out of your sight when abroad

Programme your card company's lost and stolen number into your mobile (Times Card Lost and Stolen 6000 4444, MTNL & BSNL users: 1800 233 7878)

How am I protected against fraud?
Times Card customers are 100% protected against credit card fraud. As long as you have not been negligent (for example, disclosing your PIN) you are not liable for any fraud which may take place on your account.

Fraud checks
We may call our customers to ensure that the spending we are seeing on their account is genuine. These calls are in no way a reflection of your financial status and will have no effect on your credit rating.

Counterfeit Fraud
Always keep a card in sight when making a transaction.

Skimming occurs where genuine data on a card's magnetic strip is electronically copied onto another card, without the legitimate account holder's knowledge
Skimming occurs mainly in Cash Machines, Retail Outlets, Bars, Restaurants and Petrol Stations
Skimmed information could be sold onto organised crime groups.

Use of Card Details
Protect items with account details such as statements, receipts, store cards. Discard these items carefully. We recommend that you dispose of unwanted paper work, such as statements carefully and safely, by either shredding or tearing.

Cashpoint Fraud
Never write down a PIN or keep it with the card. Cards are often stolen together with a relevant PIN. Be alert when using ATMs, ensure:

The machine has not been tampered with
Nobody can observe you inserting your PIN
Card/Cash are concealed and are safe before you leave the machine
Retain any printed records for safe disposal at a later time
If your card is retained contact us immediately.
